The Real Big Bad Wolf

(video removed) style="color:#ff0000;">WARNING: This video contains graphic and possibly disturbing footage and may not be suitable for all bloggers. For those of you with weak stomachs click pause NOW or exit the blog. For those of you that can stand it, tell your cats to hide their eyes.

I got this from someone else and thought I'd share. This is inhumane and disgusts me to no end. I didn't make it through the whole video myself. It makes me sick. There's not more that needs to be said. The video and following speak for itself. . .

In November, the CEO of J.Crew agreed to a permanent fur-free policy for his company's stores thanks to an enormous flood of phone calls at his home. Now, the millions of rabbits, foxes, minks, coyotes, and other animals who are skinned alive for their fur each year need your help. This time it's sleazy "high-profile" designer Dennis Basso who needs your extra special attention.

Dennis, who was recently featured in a disgusting article in the New York Times for his NYC boutique that sells almost nothing but tortured animal skins, is so caught up in drunken celebrity parties and limousine rides that he doesnt seem to care that he has the blood of countless animals on his hands. Give Mr. Basso a piece of your mind today - let him know exactly what you think of the bullshit products sold in his stores like fur leg warmers and dead lynx coats.

Dennis Basso

You should also call or stop by his NYC store and let him and his employees know that fur will never be "in":

765 Madison Avenue (near 66th Street)
New York, NY
Store: 212-794-4500
Office: 212-564-9560

After you're done sticking it to the fur pimp, repost this bulletin and ask your friends to call Dennis too.

I hate fur and I hate people who hurt animals.

I don't think there's any reason, unless you're a genuinely subsistent hunter, which would make you an Attu or an Inuit, why the senseless slaughter needs to continue.

I think sport hunting is murder, unless it is part of a wildlife management strategy, in which case the quoted number of animals would need to be destroyed anyway, in order to preserve their parent herds.

Fur has no place on the human body unless it grows there, and there's a reason they invented the supermarket.

You are very brave showing this video, as you are sure to stir up a very mixed variety of emotions, and it's true, the video is very disturbing. The idea that a human could let an animal suffer after it had been skinned is unthinkable.

11:34 PM

This is shocking and horrible. This must be put to a stop. You have my support to stop this animal cruelty.

1:11 AM

I didn't watch the video -- I can't stand to see bad things happening to animals. I'm not sure why people continue to wear fur or support designers who provide it.

6:40 AM

this video makes me want to cry. i wonder about those in it or taking it that do nothing to stop it; then i realize their values and mine are different.
how much different are they than the poppy farmers in Afghanistan or the cocoa growers in Columbia? While the fur trade depicted here causes undeniable pain to the animals, the dope farmers cause untold pain to humans. But each is doing what they believe they need to in order to provide for their families.
it's easy to criticize while sipping a Starbucks and debating where to go for lunch. it must be more difficult if you aren't sure there will be any lunch or dinner.
brock has it right in some way - if there wasn't a demand, there'd be no market.
i'm just know i'm glad i wasn't getting skinnned like that.

7:02 AM

Kurt, I hear you, I do. But why the fuck skin them live?! Seriously. That's my main issue with this particular person/video/whatever. If you're gonna do it anyway, at least put them down before. Ya know? I'm not saying you don't feel the same, I'm saying I hear what you're saying. I'm just sayin'.

7:41 AM

I will never be the same. I had no idea they did it live. That part seems so uneccesary and ridiculous. I might never go fishing again.
FYI, if you want to read the NY TIMES article (equally disgusting in so many ways) and would rather not register go to bugmenot.com for a "shared" login&pass. The one at the top of the list worked for me.

8:20 AM

Wow, Linny! That's freaking just as bad as skinning them alive. People never cease to amaze me.

I really hope you find a happy home for your little guy. I'll send all my good vibes and wishes your way for the day!

8:33 AM

For those that aren't aware yet, they do show the animals being skinned alive. Just FYI. It's pretty rough stuff to stomach.

9:02 AM

Damn. I was going to post about getting a new fur coat....

10:53 AM

Linny, have you tried visiting
Rescue Every Dog?

I don't know much about them, but maybe they could help.

I can't watch the movie. I got mad enough when someone shot my cat with a BBgun, but I agree. Why alive?

11:05 AM

This is the most disturbing thing I have ever seen in my life. I have tears in my eyes.

It's despicable. Capitalism or no, I will never look at a fur coat the same again without thinking of these animals.

3:33 PM

Is it that difficult to put a bullet through their brains before skinning them? I can't even begin to imagine the suffering and pain these animals go through.

If you're going to provide the fur, my God, at least be more humane.

3:33 PM

Does this mean I will have to give up my baby seal fur vest? It is so soft and looks sharp with a jacket and tie.

Actually, I couldn't get the vid to play. I'm going to play it in my mind now and pretend that it is the video of the Hootie Guy singing in the cowboy hat for Burger King.

9:36 PM

I shaved off my chest hair after watching this. On a serious note, very disturbing and thank you for posting that Jenn.

4:58 AM

Dear Gabe,
First, I fucking love it when you comment. It's always unexpected.

Second, I'm with you. I guess I should have noted that this doesn't have to do with me being against people who wear fur and such. I did say that I got this from someone else and wanted to share. For me, it's about animal cruelty all together.

It's like I said, at least kill them first, ya know? Skinning them live?! Good God. I feel the same way about any animal. Whether it's me wearing them or eating them. (I don't wear them, though. I don't thinke it looks good.)

And third, I like it when I know something I've said or done makes you itch to comment. Or possibly call!

*Hearts hearts hearts*

8:17 AM

Hey Jen. I would like to state that I think it's great that you and the folks that read your blog are against animal cruelty. It's wonderful that people care about the suffering of other creatures. However, I would like to agree w/ my brother and say that the biggest step that anyone can take against suffering and misery of any kind (human AND animal) is to consider becoming a vegan.

If you think that video is bad, check this out: http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=meet_your_meat

If anyone reading this is serious about taking a stand against animal cruelty, watch that video from beginning to end and tell me how you could not make the right choice.

Thanks for listening,
Dan

4:36 PM

i am not an advocate of PETA, nor do I agree w/ many of their platforms. However, if you do even a little research, the contents of that video are representative of normal procedure in factory farms.

If "propaganda" makes it easy for you to ignore the obvious, then i salute your capacity for self-delusion.

5:50 PM

I hear you Jenn! But until everyone takes a stand I thin k P Diddy will still be on tv with all type of bullshit furs on. Just think about out society. If you had a chance to meet your favorite start and they had a mink coat on what would you do????

Serious question!

9:37 PM

What happened to the video?

Seriously Jenn, that fucked me up. I'm not against eating animals, or using any or every part of them if it's needed, but why are they skinning the animals alive?

Is there something more to that video that we're not being told?

10:51 PM

RT, all I know is what you read. I got that from someone else. If you click on "skinned alive" in the post, it'll take you to the video and I think other 411.

I'm with you. My issue was/is the same as yours... skinning them alive. *chilled*

7:57 AM

I have known some fur hunters in my day, and in fact used to raise rabbits and sold the skins to people. No one I have ever known skinned animals alive.
